`A poet when composing is the mere creature of an up rush of inspiration in his soul, this irrational spring accounts for the nature of his products. This irrational spring accounts for the nature of his products, it compels him often to contradict himself, when he creates characters of contradicting moods and knows not which of these contradicting utterances are true'

`Imitation for imitations sake goes without emotion for emotion's sake, and there is a minimum of truth and substance in both of them'

`The art of representation is something that has no serious value and that this applies to tragic poetry, epic or drama'

Republic~Plato

Ironic as it may seem for a poet, the above examples point to a man who had thinly veiled disdain for a particular brand of entertainment. Plato oft praised reason and principle as opposed to base feeling of sorrow and pity and pleasure since he considered this a gateway to encase ourselves in grief.

His heirarchy lifted reason while actively suppressing irrationality which brought forth cowardice, which is the goal of the dramatic poet/writer. Years later entertainment has morphed into lucrative businesses and powerful enough to attract operatives to sway opinions on nations designated as foes. Aristotle disliked comedy believing lending reign of your mental faculties to comic instinct in theatres would eventually encourage one to play the buffon at home.

Certain forms of Art in general, in his (Plato) view was considered dangerous as it served to corrupt and inflame emotions, rather than suppress them allowing man to be led by reason.
In a way, Plato's legacy is media suppression.
