A reminder to all the taxi operators, by 31 January 2023, none of the over to thousands Toyota panelvans that had been illegally converted into taxis, will be allowed to transport passengers any more.

These taxis must be surrendered for scrapping at the Taxi Recapitalization South Africa. Note, the owner of an illegally converted Toyota Panel Van must have an operating license or permit linked to the vehicle and also in the owner's name to qualify for a scrapping allowance.

Vans not scrapped, will be impounded at roadblocks from February next year.

What they have banned is the use of panel vans that have been converted to look like commuter vans. A panel van has some windows missing, and lacks floor reinforcement for seat attachment, making passengers vulnerable during accidents. Some investors will purchase the panel van and affix windows (this is cheaper) to make it look like a commuter van. Investors who scrap their panel vans will get some compensation to enable them buy commuter vans.

Btw I recently saw a brand new matatu nissan KDH ferrying guys to Eastleigh owned by Arbab. I thought new ones aren't allowed to operate in Nairobi routes.

I am not a Futurama fan .
I doubt. Then why don't we have new Nissan's on city routes?
Stop doubting , they might not necesarily get KDJ but zile shuttle zinalemewa kwenda Kisumu,Nyeri ,Nakuru, Kisii zinanunuliwa na sacco za karibu na Nairobi the likes of 118 ,110, 25 ,Kahawa West ,Githurai etc .

Then those beaten up Nissan's on many city routes should be replaced eg za west.
