Manchester United legend, Patrice Evra has admitted that he "begged for money in front of shops" as a result of a "very tough childhood".

“I’m not scared to say that I’ve begged for money in front of shops," the 38-year-old told Manchester United's official podcast recently.

"I’ve been in front of shops and when I’ve seen some people I’ve said, ‘Can I have a Euro?’"

While stating that those times were "tough", he also described them as "happy times" because "it built the man I am".

Born in Dakar, Senegal to a father of Guinean descent (a diplomat) and Juliette, a Cape Verdean mother, Evra is one of a total of 25 children.

He developed an interest in football at a young age and was fascinated by the play of former Brazilian international Romario.

Among his honours are five English Premier League (EPL) titles, one UEFA Champions League (UCL) trophy, one FIFA Club World Cup title and two Italian Serie A titles.
