No matter where you find yourself in this country, one constant is the ever present kibanda.

Usually operated by a woman who is christened mama so or so, the simple structure with fresh meals is always a draw. Perhaps the most welcoming aspect is the price and how funny the locals refer to the delicacies on offer.

Yes, Kenya doesn't have a great street food culture since we prepare most food at home but the simple delights make life worthwhile especially for casual workers, students, bachelors and those like me who just find joy in everyday simplicity.

My lunch today (corn meal mush made to medium hard, beef tripe and a side of sautéed collard greens) cost just 100/-, an amount that would cater an entire month if I were to substitute what some high end restaurants charge for vain meals in the name of fine dining.
