is this in any way connected to the Ruai sewage?
Kariobangi families homeless as houses pulled down

In Summary
  • The land is said to have been grabbed from Dandora Estate Waste Sewerage Treatment Plant in Ruai.
  • Kariobangi North MCA Julius Njoka condemned the demolitions, accusing the government of being inhumane.
Thousands of Kariobangi sewage slum estate in Kariobangi North have been left homeless following the demolition of their houses.
The demolition of the structures was carried out by the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company in a bid to reclaim the land where more than 5,000 families have been living since 2008.
This comes after the expiry of a notice to vacate the land said to have been grabbed from Dandora Estate Waste Sewerage Treatment Plant in Ruai.
However, a number of the affected residents said they were not given any written notice, claiming that the area administrator and police boss only gave them a verbal notice on Sunday to move out by the end of the day.
One of the affected residents, Titus Ndambuki, said that he saw bulldozers coming to their estate on Sunday before the demolitions began Monday morning.

EVICTION NOTICE
The demolition, he said, begun without any eviction notice being issued to the residents by Nairobi water company. He claimed that they have been rightfully living on the contested parcel of land for close to 12 years now.
“We only received a communication on Friday from the DC that evictions will be happening and that we should start looking for alternative places to live in. There wasn’t any eviction notice,” said Mr Ndambuki.
He said that most tenants have allotment letters for the land and were awaiting the processing of title deeds.
“We have the letters and we have been paying rent for the past 12 years, so how can the government claim that we are here illegally?” he posed.
Another resident questioned the sudden rush to evict them on such a short notice yet they have been living on the contested land and they have allotment letters and receipts showing they have been paying rates to Nairobi County government since 2008.

I don't know anything about Northlands but I know if I was the City Planner hoping to add the water supply from the Karimenu Dam (under construction) to city supply then I would be thinking about where the waste would go after Nairobians have enjoyed the supply. Normally one requires space where the waste would rest for a period (treatment) before it is released back into the environment and that requires space whose reserve land had been grabbed.

No discussion should be happening on whether the act was right or wrong.
We're in the roughest period the World has faced in decades and such people have nowhere to go since ata mtu hawezi peleka jamii ocha.
This is a barbaric act and anyone siding with the government is worse than *insert expletive here*

Matiang'i: (Live now on tv) _ The Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company has money from donors to expand sewerage (last given serious attention in 1936 - his words) that it couldn't do because the land was held by grabbers. Evictions happening at the end of a court process.

Kariobangi sewage treatment plant is an old facility that used to cater for Nairobi before it became heavily populated.
The one in Ruai was built much later as the city expanded.

I'll start by saying evicting people in this manner at the current time was stupid and an ill thought move. But from a few first hand stories I've heard hizi eviction za slum are never what they look like. A friend is involved in the westlands ring road project that caused the eviction of "deep sea" slum in parklands. Guys were paid for relocation, some moved, landlords continelued renting the house to new occupants...... ile siku walibomolewa ilikuwa same story, oh, no compensation, no notice

You Sir, need to read again to see that I did not put my opinion in anything I have posted: but I have stated the facts for right thinking members of society to form an informed opinion.

If it is my honest opinion you wanted - This was the wrong time to evict. Period.
None of your responses above expresses that sympathy that you now imply.
