Pakistan artisans making non-stick pans using outdated processes and methods. This is how pans were made in the 1900s. The machines are equally old but serve the purpose. Similar juakali outfits are common in India and Bangladesh, churning out all sorts of products.

Those non stick compounds are carcinogenic and should be avoided.

There is a big marketing gap and I remember Ndii promoting a hashtag on Twitter for made in Kenya goods and I was shocked how many products you can purchase locally.
He dared baba to use his timeline to promote but he dropped the effort later.

A chemical named Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) was used to layer non-stick teflon pans until 2015. It was associated with several health problems, after which its usage was discontinued. Still, there are cheap non-stick pans available which might have this particular compound present in them. Some of the health risks associated with PFOA are liver tumors, breast cancer, reduced fertility, thyroid and kidney disorder.
Make sure you always check the quality of your non-stick pans before buying them and invest only in good quality cookware. You must also replace your non-stick cookware if you notice that the coating is either cracking up or flaking.

All non-stick pans are lined with Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), popularly known as teflon. PTFE is a synthetic chemical formed by combining carbon and fluorine atoms. While the popularity of teflon has grown over the years, many people question whether it is as safe as it is portrayed. Though teflon is usually termed safe for cooking, it shouldn’t be exposed to very high temperatures.

At temperatures above 570°F (300°C), teflon coating can start breaking down which might release toxic chemicals in the air. When these toxic fumes are inhaled, it can lead to flu-like symptoms. Body chills, fever, headache and body aches are some of the temporary but common symptoms experienced after inhaling these fumes.

Though teflon layered cookware can be used once in a while on low flame, here are some alternatives you can use for a safer cooking experience.

Stainless steel is hands down the best cooking material you can use on an everyday basis. From sauteing foods to cooking on high flame, this material is safe for all types of cooking. It is also scratch resistant and easy to clean, which keeps it shiny for long. Cast iron tawa is another good alternative. Any pan or pot with a very heavy bottom prevents sticking of food.
