Kenyatta Oathed Kikuyu to Never Vote for Uncircumcised Leaders
A new book by former Anglican Archbishop David Gitari has captured the mass Oathing on the Kikuyu allegedly conducted by first President Jomo Kenyatta in his book Troubled but NOT Destroyed.
David Gitari narrates that following the death of Tom Mboya, news started filtering through that many Kikuyus were going to the home of Kenyatta in Gatundu in their thousands.
They were to have tea which literally translated to taking an oath to ensure that the Government of Kenya remained with the House of Mumbi.
Those who resisted the oathing ceremony were beaten up while some were killed.
According to the book, youth were made to squat and given an unpalatable concoction of blood.
The book has dug into the genesis of the bad blood between the Kikuyus and the Luos as the former was oathed never to bequeath leader to the latter.
In part it reads,
The government of Kenya is under Kikuyu leadership and this must be maintained. If any tribe tries to set itself up against the Kikuyu, we must fight them the same way we died fighting the British settlers. No Uncircumcised leaders (i.e Luo) will be allowed to take leadership from the Kikuyu. You shall not vote for any party not led by the Kikuyu".
