How to get clearance from CRB

In order to get clearance from CRB one has to register with the licensed CRBs either Metropol Corporation, TransUnion or CreditInfo first.

You can get clearance whether you have defaulted a loan or not; here, I'll highlight how to get clearance on both defaulter or no-defaulters.

Clearance for non-defaulters

If your status with the registered CRB is good one can apply for a clearance certificate by following the processes below;
For those who have registered with TransUnion;
  • Go to Mpesa, select Lipa na Mpesa
  • Choose Paybill and enter 212121
  • Enter your National ID number as account number
  • Enter Sh2200 as processing fee and send
  • On receiving the confirmation, forward the message to '[email protected]'
You can do all these through the TransUnion app easily.

For those registered with Metropol here's how to get your clearance certificate;
  • Go to Mpesa, select Lipa na Mpesa
  • Choose Paybill and enter 220338
  • Enter your National ID number as account number
  • Enter Sh2200 as processing fee and send
  • To get the certificate you can request for it via the website or the app
While getting your clearance using CreditInfo, all the processes are done through their website (https://ke.creditinfo.com)

Clarance if you are a defaulter

In order to get clearance if you are a defaulter, you need to clear your loan(s) from your lenders. Every lender has their own terms that they expect to be followed, Lenders such as Banks, allow their defaulters to negotiate on terms of payment that's if the loan cannot be paid at once. In the case of mobile money lenders or digital lending app, one has to clear, they don't have negotiable terms.

Once you have cleared your loan(s), wait for three to four days before applying for a clearance certificate. Apply for the certificate if you need it since it's only valid for 24hours since lenders update CRBs on a daily basis.

You can get another loan once cleared from CRB depending on your credit score. A good credit score is above 700 while a bad credit score is below 350.

A clearance certificate is normally processed within a week, the process depends on the CRB of your choice.
