How to book for SGR online

Standard Guage Railway also known as Madaraka Express was launched by President Kenyatta in October 2014. The main aim was to reduce transportation cost and also save on time.

It has been around for 4 years now and extension from Nairobi to Naivasha was completed last year.
This is how you can book for a trip or trips.

SGR has two train types, Express and inter-County trains, if you select Express train it means the train will leave Nairobi and or Mombasa and the next stop will be in Mombasa and or Nairobi. While selecting the inter-County train means you can board or alight the train from the available termini which are Nairobi terminus, Mombasa, Voi, Mtito Andei, Mariakani, Miaseny, Kibwezi, Emali, and Athi River.

After selecting the type of train you'll travel with, select where you'll board the train and your destination.

The next stage is selecting the date of travel and click 'book train' as shown below;

The page below will pop up, SGR has two classes, the first class and economy, select the one that suits you. Navigate through to fill in the number of adults seeking to travel and children if any.

For First Class, adults are expected to pay Sh3000, Children between 3-11 years pay Sh1500 and below 3years travel for free. For Economy, adults pay Sh1000, Children between 3-11years pay Sh500 and below 3years travel for free as well.

Upon making payments, you'll receive a confirmation message from SGR indicating your date of travel, seat number, and loft, time of departure and arrival, including class whether First class or Economy.

On the travel date, one is required to print their receipt at the terminus of departure, which will be shown before boarding the train.
