It’s the norm all around. Grand monuments into which we sink millions and billions of shillings coz of vested interests.
Admittedly, some are essential (e.g lecture halls) but costs are way inflated.
Always wondered what happens to research projects, spend so much time and energy submit it inaenda kupata vumbi kwa shelves halafu raiyaa anakuja hustle. Stanford have StartX for proposals that seem promising to have a stake in them as they are commercialized and get something in return. Pretty sure universities have within their networks people who can be interested in funding them. Once or twice a year get their networks together and showcase what they`ve been doing

Down south in RSA universities pay you for doing your project. Logic is you've enriched their body of knowledge.

It is only in Africa where a university vice chancellor will invest in real estate and get praised for it. Magoha na ile mama ya KU Olive Mugenda only have humongous buildings to account for their legacy at the universities they headed.
Olive Mugenda actually did a good job. I wish uliona KU before her arrival or in her first years. Nakumbuka nikikalia nyasi kwa kiwanja ikanidunga matako through my jeans kama sindano. My mum was graduating on that day.

Since then wamejenga new lecture halls, a computer lab, a science and education department complex. You also cannot forget the mega referral hospital that is saving lives hii time ya corona.

Shame the quality of education has not met those infrastructural levels.
