That is exactly what you should do. Hata watu wa mtumba hufanya ivo. The worn out clothes are sold at throw-away prices otherwise known as "fagia" where t-shirts go for Ksh 50 etc etc. That's why the really nice clothes are expensive so that they can cover for the inevitable dead stock and leave the trader at a profit.

From experience,
A bale of shoes has around 35 pairs and goes for 18k. Once you get it, you pick 5 pairs which you call "camera" and sell at 2k each. Then another 10 for 1k. Your costs are covered.
The rest you do what we call "gutemanga" yaani fagia. That's your profit. Ata ukiuza at 100 for 15 pairs that's like 1500, which is good profit.

With phones there is usually a window where both the outgoing phone and the upgrade grace the shelves. The beauty of the Kenyan buyer is that information does not flow at the same time. The urbanite (early adapter) will quickly start asking about the new phone but the villager is at this time warming up to the older phone. So I keep both phones and wait for the client to reveal which category he belongs. Surprisingly I have found out that in most cases, the older phone fetches better margins because most sellers stop stocking it. Sometimes the main distributor slashes the price by a huge margin but the final buyer is non the wiser. This is where money is made in this industry.

Then u will still dig back into our pockets to get another 18k for a new bale?
