Police in Nyeri have retrieved the body of a fellow officer from inside a rental house he was living in Kimathi estate in Nyeri town.
While confirming the incident, Nyeri Central Subcounty Police Commander Paul Kuria said that the body had gunshot wounds on the head.
He said that investigations have already commenced to ascertain the real cause of death, though observing that probabilities were high that the officer may have shot himself to death.
Kuria said that the search of the officer was prompted by his failure to report to work as expected early morning yesterday.
He urged officers troubled by personal issues or otherwise to speak out but not to take their own lives,
The deceased officer aged 37 who is an administration police constable was attached to Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) and has been in service for 13 years.
The police boss called on all officers who need help to speak out for help as there are mechanisms to help them instead of taking their own lives.
He said efforts are on to notify the officer's kin.
The body of the officer was taken the the Nyeri referral hospital morgue.
During reconstruction of the scene, by detectives, a loaded AK 47 rifle was recovered and some spent cartridges.
