China Records more Covid Cases in 2022 than 2021- Lockdowns begin in major cities. Beijing has reported more local symptomatic Covid cases this year already (over 9,000) than all of 2021 (8,373) as Omicron outbreaks threaten major cities including Shanghai and Shenzhen. Two suppliers to Apple - Foxconn and Unimicron - have suspended operations in Shenzhen, while the world’s second tallest building, Shanghai Tower, was locked down Monday after 169 cases were detected in the city.

Workers inside must stay there until everyone inside tests negative, restricting access to the financial center that houses firms such as JPMorgan and Fitch Ratings.
