There is one factor you have either missed, left out or you do not know about.
Money from long distance buses comes from the parcel business.
Bus itabeba abiria 48 to Kisumu plus tons of parcels destined for Kisumu too. That bus can carry up between two and three tons of parcels or even more.
Assuming that the cheapest parcel, about five kilos costs about 400-500 shilling, how much money are they raking in?
And do not forget that there are parcels that are charged not by weight but by volume.
Plus there are the documents that are sent through the buses. An A4 sized envelope to Mombasa by Mash is charged at 300( it must be more by now). And these are just put in a mailbag and stashed in the overhead racks. Such a mailbag might carry up to a thousand letters (@300/- each).
This parcel business is so lucrative that bus companies have modified old buses to carry parcels. Enda River Road uone bus ya Gateway ikienda Kampala, ama ya Mash ikienda Mombasa. And the advantage, unlike your msedes, buses do not have to line at the weighbridge.
@Meria Fanya hesabu. Buses companies do not operate like the msedes you pretend to drive.
Am out.
