On completion of the sale transaction, Braeburn intends to continue operating the Hillcrest Schools under the Hillcrest brand

The sale of Hillcrest School comes three years after the institution was acquired by the Dubai-based GEMS Education for Sh2.6 billion

Gems Education acquired it from private equity firm Fanisi Capital.

Fanisi Capital-led by IT millionaires, Ayisi Makatiani and Anthony Wahome had bought Hillcrest from the family of the late Kenneth Matiba in 2011

Hillcrest Schools were founded in the 1960s and purchased by the late Kenneth Matiba,

Braeburn has campuses in Nanyuki, Thika, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nairobi, and Lavington while in Tanzania, the school has its campus in Arusha.

Hii GEMS, they bought hillcrest and closed the GEMS school hapo langata/magadi road then transferred the students to hillcrest. Now they have sold hillcrest and it seems they have exited kenya.

Any idea what they will do with Gems? Occasionally I see some guys training football on the awesome AstroTurf that they have installed on the field.

GEMS was renting the premises for 200m per yr. Shida ni ya landlord who was left high and dry. Intrestingly GEMS instructed the landlord to build the school in that design alafu wakahama. He may have to look for another school to rent the premises. Or he converts the school to offices, na ikikua ikue ngumu saidi convert to stalls. The landlord should sue GEMS for breach of contract/lease.

Shait. Considering the prime location, the owner was definitely shagged mercilessly. A hotel would do but then again, not many hotels in Karen do well. A residential complex would flourish but it'd go against the by-laws of hizo sides. Kizungumkuti, I say.
A school would be very viable as long as it's able to compete with neighbouring Banda and Brookhouse

2nd idiom of the day:

White elephant

A white elephant is a possession that its owner cannot dispose of, and whose cost, particularly that of maintenance, is out of proportion to its usefulness.

Maybe that contract had exit clauses that allowed GEMS to disappear without notice which the landlord failed to see coz of the 200M/year blinders.

GEMS international walipeleka landlord and architect to the GEMS school in dubai wakawaambia wafanye copy pasting ya that school hapa nairobi. Then tenant akahama after 2yrs. Hivo ndivo 3B ilikunywa maji. Hii ndio inaweza fanya mtu arushe mwingine kule yala. I believe the land lord must have given them very lenient terms since this was an international brand and schools are normally run for generations so the land lord thought ameangukia forever especially with the 200m rent.

For the landlord though to have such a prime property, 3B is probably nothing to him/her. They should be fine, ni ideas pekee amekosa
