This is to the reasonable ones I debate with frequently. So LET'S GO!!!

I start with this. The China Center Square situation is a symptom of a bigger problem we have in our economic setup.

1) We should promote local manufacturing of what we can locally, and be protectionist over that. Personally I'm tired of buying cheap quality stuff and have them break after the first few uses, mainly because the alternative brands are priced for expats. Even if you can afford it, don't accept it. Before the 90s we could all afford high quality goods locally made and were handed down in good condition.

2) Let me get a breather, coming soon..

My two Hungarian forints.
The right to dissent is inherent: let's let them be.

Secondly; economic protectionism is one of the subtle core of the government, only that we have a unsubtle (for the lack of a better word) people in office, the China centre would have been dealt with using the available legal mechanism, without causing a furore. Still, the greedy mark-up prices by the local traders would have broken the camels back(sic) without the interference from the Chinaman, we need value for money while buying items, e.g. That's why most people buy items from the Indian and Somali traders, since they still have a moral code in trade unlike, our people, who will brag on how they cheated you (kumtamora in Sheng) while imbibing.

Local manufacturing and protectionism are concepts that we should have forgotten 3 decades ago for the simple reason that they become counter-productive in environments with high corruption, inefficiency, and high production costs. Secondly, the local market is insufficient to justify investment in some product categories, meaning any entities investing in such must be competitive enough to export, which is impossible with high corruption, inefficiency, and high production costs.

The reason you cannot get quality goods is the greed culture of your traders, which was inherited from Indians and the colonials. The prices you pay at Kamukunji can get you the same quality China exports to Europe. China Square simply provided you with kamukunji-quality products at the correct prices.

How are we having this conversation when it is clear the consumer has been getting the short end of the stick all through, are we clamouring for the right to be fleeced. I say China square to be opened for business
True true middle men of nyamakima should open up spas and keg pubs
