A study has shown that men get fat in the heat.

This is due to exposure to sunlight, which stimulates the release of the 'hunger hormone' ghrelin.

Researchers from Tel Aviv University found that men are more likely to gain weight in summer because of this hormone, because they consume more calories than usual.

But this effect is only common in men, as in women the hormone oestrogen prevents the release of ghrelin, so it has no effect on appetite.
