Devolution cost benefit analysis

Aside from the politics of it, I look at it from a purely financial perspective. Affordability.
Methinks we simply cannot afford it. Not with the meager resources at our disposal currently.
That is why I am suggesting trimming the fat. There are far too many MCA's. If not trimming their number, trim their salaries and benefits. We are over-represented but no senior politician with presidential ambitions will mention it because it will jeopardize their popularity. Maybe a popular initiative would go a long way.

My analysis leads me to conclude that the costs of devolution far outweigh the benefits of the same. The money we've spent is insane!!!
Ask people what the gains of devolution are they mention things like "easier access to government services"

Look at the northern frontier districts, they've received almost 1 trillion since 2013. What do they have to show for it?

The little praise being accorded to devolution could have been done by District commissioners and City mayors for a fraction of the cost.

Devolution has just devolved corruption.
Tell us something new. This is new to sychophants and the ignorant

Whatever little devolution claims to have achieved would still have been achieved by decentralization, which we already had accelerated by 2013. In that respect, devolution rolled back the gains by centralizing at county hq.

The folly of political myopia. Instead of concentrating on baking the cake, they’re preoccupied on sharing out an ever shrinking one.

I often wonder, hawa wakenya who support(ed) it, where do they think extra funds to pay for the expanded Executive etc will come from? Si ni sisi tu tutafinywa tutoe hii pesa?
What people fail to realise is that some section of the country is disproportionately taxed higher than other areas, VAT mainly affects urban areas, coffee and tea cess aka crop tax only affects those two crops meawhile livestock farmers and horticulture don't pay that tax.
We should abolish governors and have DCs and PCs running counties with an elected county board of supervisors to oversee them.

Isn't devolution decentralization daktari? Decentralization means giving everybody an equal or almost equal stake. Devolution in theory provides that resources should be distributed equitably to all counties away from the center.

However, since it partially cures the big man syndrome, it is in their best interest for it to fail so that their money well does not run dry. No wonder devolution has not been implemented 100% and resources continue to be delayed each year to frustrate devolution.

Theory vs. practice.
Very different.

Example: health facilities in many counties (?) lost all control they had over their budgets and finances. I know of places where, now, ambulances have to be driven to county hqs to be fueled. Imagine that!!
The same is replicated in other devolved dep’ts.

However, since it partially cures the big man syndrome,
Does it, really?
The provincial administration is still around 🤷🏽‍♂️

resources continue to be delayed each year to frustrate devolution.
This would not be an issue if counties were financially viable. And no, overtaxation is not the way to achieve it.
