. The owner of Evergreen Apartments went to collect the rent for the month of April from the tenants when the ugly incident happened.

Mr. Makau, the landlord, demanded a full pay of the rent from the tenants. Two of his tenants confronted him requesting for lowering of the monthly rent. The two argued that, they are going through hard times and he needs to cushion them.
.
Mr Makau was angered by the tenants and authoritatively maintained his stand and ordered them to pay the full amount or else they vacate from his premises.

Those who witnessed the scene narrated that, the landlord became harsh and they had a heated argument which resulted to exchange of brows. More than eight more tenants descended on him and vowed to teach him a lesson.

The landlord fell on the ground and suddenly collapsed leading to his demise. Police officers and area chief Mr. John Musyoka are investigating the unfortunate incident.

The French revolution started with peasants decapitating their landlords.
Si unangoja revolution sana, wait fih de bell a ring
Someone just got killed by some people who somehow think paying rent is a benevolent move. That's someone business watafeel aje kibanda yao watu wanachukua vitu bila kulipa??

PS..I'm not implicating you just summing my opinion in one post.

Maybe they will build their own houses to be free of rent. I sympathize with the economic situation. But rent reduction is not an entitlement. It should be a negotiated agreement
99% ya tenants hawataki kulipa just because wako na excuse. Kenya imekua nchi ya kupenda free things. Like time ya campaign 200/ Bob itasifiwa sana. Mimi Aiko kazi but nalipa rent because nothing is free in this world. Nikilemewa kulipa nitaenda upcountry. But si ujinga kama hii ya kujipiga kifua.

Kenyans are nowhere near ready for a revolution, but such events show people are getting frustrated.

@ranny wa klist , I agree with your statement I have highlighted above.
Can banks who gave landlords loans to build tenant houses give them a break ?.
Otherwise landlords are being asked to solely pick up the negative impact of corona on rent.

Let me take you back to the @ranny wa klist statement you quoted. I will only paraphrase it: Loans can also be renegotiated.
But I am not excusing the murder!

But as far as I know Kenyan banks have not gone public about their willingness to renegotiate real estate investment loans. Despite urging from the Uhuru government.
You do not expect them to. If they did, everyone would line up to take advantage. Even those who do not qualify. But those really in need are being listened to and agreements put on paper and signed.

Actually yes bank are giving loan holidays of up to 3 months. But you have to ask and negotiate individually it’s not a blanket agreement.

Thanks for the info.
However hatujui kama the Machakos landlord had renegotiated a loan holiday.
Which takes us back to your initial comment on landlord\tenant relationship - It should be a negotiated agreement

What will you say about tenants of big brands in UK and SA who have refused to pay the mall owners rent?
