The officers together with KWS rangers visited the neighbours of Senator Maina after Beatrice Wakonyo Muchiri, the owner of the cow and a peasant farmer complained that the guard only known by name Mwangi had threatened her earlier that any dairy cow which will stray at the farm will be slashed to death. The black dairy cow named 'Muiru' was worth Kshs.150,000. Wakonyo complained that the only cow which was being relied upon by the poor family was found dead with deep panga cuts on several parts of the body at the boundary of the farm at Ma Store area, Lusoi, Kieni East. Senator Maina owns the farm which has hundreds of acres' coverage. Tens of workers are also deployed at the farm. Wakonyo is now calling upon the Senator to compensate her family immediately. Her husband Isaac Muchiri said the cow was producing over 10 litres per day which has helped to educate their children. He now fears that the children might drop out of school due to lack of school fees. Another neighbour, Simon Mwangi alias Kanu also complained that Senator's workers have also been denying them water which was earlier given free by the Senator. Unconfirmed reports showed that the suspect has since been sacked. The neighbours have since planned to stage demonstrations if the owner is not compensated. Area assistant Chief Nancy Ngaira said the matter is still under investigation as KWS rangers confirmed that the animal died due to deep panga cuts and not because of attack from any wild animal.
