Europa League quarter-finals:

Manchester United will face FC Copenhagen on Monday (20:00 BST) in the quarter-finals of the Europa League as seven games in 12 days decide the winner of the 2019-20 competition.

Wolves will also be in quarter-final action against Sevilla on Tuesday in a mini-tournament dubbed 'the final eight', with all games taking place at four venues in Germany.

The two Premier League sides will meet in a semi-final in Cologne on 17 August if they both come through their quarter-finals. The final is in the same city on 21 August.

This is Inter's first European quarter-final since the 2010-11 Champions League, while Leverkusen have reached the last eight of a major European competition for the first time since the 2007-08 Uefa Cup.

FC Copenhagen are the first Danish side to reach a major European quarter-final since Brondby in 1996-97.

Shakhtar have reached their first European quarter-final since 2015-16 and this is Basel's first major European last-eight tie since the 2013-14 Europa League.

Any rule changes?
All four quarter-finals are one-off matches. If the scores are level after 90 minutes there will be extra time and penalties if necessary.

Teams will be able to make five substitutions but, to limit the number of stoppages, they will only be allowed to make these changes at three points in the game.

One additional substitution will be allowed in extra time.

Man Utd VS FC Copenhagen

Inter Milan VS B Leverkusen

Stats
• Manchester United and FC Copenhagen have only met twice, in the 2006-07 Champions League group stages - the Red Devils won 3-0 at Old Trafford before losing 1-0 in Copenhagen.

• In 10 previous attempts, FC Copenhagen's only victory against English sides in European competition was against Manchester United in November 2006 (D4 L5). They have failed to score in their past four games against English opponents.

• Manchester United are looking to reach only their second European semi-final since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013, doing so in 2016-17 when they went on to win the Europa League under Jose Mourinho.

• This is FC Copenhagen's first ever European quarter-final appearance, while they are the first Danish side to reach a major Uefa European quarter-final since Brondby IF in the 1996-97 Uefa Cup. Brondby IF are also the only Danish side to reach a major European semi-final, achieving that feat in the 1990-91 Uefa Cup.

• Manchester United's Juan Mata has been directly involved in seven goals in his nine Europa League appearances this season (two goals, five assists); in 26 matches in other competitions, Mata has been involved in just three goals for the Red Devils (one goal, two assists).

The Champions League quarter-finals

Atalanta are the first team to reach the Champions League quarter-finals at the first attempt since Leicester City in 2016-17

Only two of the eight teams left in the tournament - Bayern Munich and Barcelona - have won the Champions League or European Cup before, and they meet in a quarter-final.

Atletico Madrid, who play RB Leipzig, are the only other side to reach the final (losing three times).

One of Atletico, Leipzig, Paris St-Germain or Atalanta will be in the final on 23 August.

Atalanta - who have scored 115 goals this season - are in the Champions League for the first time and qualified for the knockout stages despite losing their first three group games.

Leipzig were only founded 11 years ago and this is their first time in the Champions League knockout stages. They are without all-time top scorer Timo Werner, who joined Chelsea this summer.

The German side play Atletico Madrid, who lost the final in 1974, 2014 and 2016.

The winners of Bayern and Barca will play either Manchester City or Lyon. Both sides have been in one Champions League semi-final before.

The Champions League quarter-finals and semi-finals being played over one leg - all at neutral venues in Lisbon - could change the dynamic of ties.

Players getting coronavirus could change things too. Atletico Madrid duo Angel Correa and Sime Vrsaljko are self-isolating and did not travel to Lisbon after testing positive for Covid-19.

Matches must be played if a team have 13 outfield players and a goalkeeper available from their main 'A list'.

The alternatives are teams being allowed to register another player already at the club, the game being rescheduled (although there are very few alternative dates) or the team having to forfeit the game.

Bayern Munich striker Lewandowski has never won the European Cup or Champions League. He lost the 2013 final against Bayern when he was a Borussia Dortmund player.

The 31-year-old is the top scorer in the tournament's history to have never won it. His double against Chelsea took him on to 66 goals, only behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Raul (who have won five, four and three Champions Leagues respectively).

The Poland international is also set to be the first person other than Ronaldo or Messi to win the Champions League Golden Boot outright since Kaka in 2007.

Lewandowski has 13 goals in seven Champions League games this term, seven goals clear of anyone left in the competition.

He is only four behind Ronaldo's record of 17 goals for Real Madrid in 2013-14 - although only has a maximum of three games left because of second legs being removed.

Manchester City are favourites to win the tournament, both with the bookmakers and by data company Gracenote's Euro Club Index.

City's best Champions League run was reaching the semi-finals in 2016. One of the major reasons behind bringing Pep Guardiola in as manager was to try to help them win the tournament. He is only three games and two weeks away from doing so.

In the previous round, City beat Real Madrid in both legs as they became the first team to eliminate Zinedine Zidane from the Champions League as a manager.

It is nine years since the second of Guardiola's Champions League successes with Barcelona. He failed to reach the final in his last year with Barca, three seasons with Bayern and three seasons at City (excluding this one).

TODAYS GAME

Atalanta v Paris St-Germain (10Pm)

The French champions have not reached the semi-finals of Europe's elite club competition since the Qatari takeover of the club in 2011.

Champions League debutants Atalanta have been the surprise package of this year's competition.
Atalanta finished third for the second successive season in Serie A and Gasperini says his players are in "great condition".

The stats
  • This will be the first competitive game between Atalanta and Paris St-Germain. Atalanta's only previous encounter with a French club in European competition was against Lyon in the 2017-18 Europa League group stages - the Bergamo side drew 1-1 in France and won 1-0 at home.
  • PSG have never won a game against Italian opposition in the Champions League (D4 L2).
  • PSG have not reached the last four of the competition since the 1994-95 season.
  • The French giants have scored in their past 32 Champions League games, currently the longest run in the competition.
  • Atalanta are the first debutants to reach the quarter-finals of the competition since Leicester City in 2016-17 and the first Italian side to do so since Lazio in the 1999-00 campaign.
  • Atalanta have won their past four Champions League games, the longest current run alongside Bayern Munich.
  • The Serie A side have conceded more goals than any other team left in this season's competition (16 in eight games).
WHO WILL WIN.

I am rooting for ATLANTA all the way to the Final

Atalanta win
Paris St-Germain scored two late goals in a sensational comeback against Atalanta to reach the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in 25 years.

Atalanta 1-2 PSG

So sorry for Atalanta, but at least they have now gotten some Champions league experience. they can only grow from here (i hope)

for PSG, with what happened to them last season against Man Utd, they deserve the win and in the dramatic fashion, they got it.
