This is crucial; we got caught up in the race for 'papers' and every institution wanted to be upgraded to a Uni so they could cash in. I once met a guy who worked for Civicon; he told me that when they were doing construction for Tullow they were forced to bring in welders from India as our locals had none of the certifications required. True the footbridges and any other fabrication work was done by China man. Reason, our people though skilled did not have certificates
Anyway these is what TVET is all about ,ensure we have people with Technical skills certified by KNQA other than knec or NITA
Kanya national qualification authority was established in 2015
to cater for this. Any body doing car wash ,saloons, welding etc etc is supposed to be full taken care of by KNQA ,the upward mobility is there for all these informal ( jua kali ) sector

When my friend Regina was in the show, there were very few ex-japan imports. Most were showroom vehicles.
Now imagine a brand new CRV. It would have coated far much more in 1998 or thereabouts.
Umenichenga kidogo but sawa tuu. Beer was less than 10 bob back then. Factor in inflation ujue 3.5 million ilikuwa ngapi then. Hio haikuwa pesa ya kununua gari. Ask around.
