wimbo ni ya music copyright society ama ni ya 'sauti ya solo' ?
The copyright society is the co-ordinating body for the efficient collection and payment of musicians' dues. Can you imagine how messy and costly it would be if each musician went around demanding the cents per play of their songs even from people they do not know but who are "profiting" from their music? Eg- How would a musician based in Nyahururu know that an MCA candidate in Ishiara and go to demand royalties?
The society provides a central place where the candidate goes to pay for a "seasonal" license. Everybody should be happy (but sometimes Kenyans being Kenyans corruption ...)

Rationalize that valuation.
Sauti sol is a big brand known all over the country, they are not just any riff-raff that depends on the corrupt MCSK to recieve 1,200 per year. If that is the path raila has chosen he has clearly opted to disenfranchise the artists...he should have gone directly to them...ata kwanza even 1.5 ni kidogo sana...they should have been paid 3m minimum.

How would you rationalise them getting paid 1,200 come 2023 ati it is the money collected from campaigns?

At 3 mil how many politicians will pay? Kwani is it a concert?

Say What?

No need for rationalisation. The value of their work is what they say it is. Wakisema 3M for this type of use then it's 3M. The rest ni wenyewe kuona kama watalipa ama opt something else.
It is not them that said the 3m but @The.Black.Templar . He is the one I asked to explain how he arrived at that valuation. Has Sauti Sol left the copyright society?

Edit- I think if you overvalue yourself you price yourself out of the market. Azimio are not dying to use Sauti Sol's music, are they?

the 3M was an example, but looking at their letter, they are clearly not happy....and it is something that should not be ignored since it is their talent

as long as azimio pays, then all azimio politicians are at freedom to use it, same was if Kenya kwanza pays, then all their rallies they are free to use their material, whether MCA or Governors
True. And one fee paid to the copyright society allows the payer to play the music of ALL the musicians under the society's umbrella. I think (and this is pure speculation, possibly not fact!) the difference comes when a campaign wants to adopt a song as their theme song.
