Matatus have a subculture of their own, especially for nganyas. I remember in our days, they would install a frenor (sp) in the exhaust system so that they 'whistle' loudly as they moved. As a teen, that was uber cool haha

Hiyo sijui it was in the Isuzu lorries za mawe and the nyayo buses pekee when I was growing up, definitely airbrakes and you have to release the build up of air pressure.
